“Being Swiss myself and having a foreign friend who experienced a very similar situation after following her husband to Switzerland, I wanted to know more about the struggles of a highly educated, young woman looking for a job in Switzerland.
The book is divided in three parts. The first two parts and the beginning of the third part are very illustrative and based on facts about employment (career choices, educational paths, salaries, work contracts and so on) and also unemployment (state support and unemployment rates, among others). In the rest of third part of the book, the author speaks about her personal struggles being unemployed (inbalance in the relationship, financial dependency, issue with self confidence, etc) and how she dealt with it and made sense of this difficult time. This was actually the most enjoyable part of the book for me. These sections (which are about 75% of the third part) are also quite different in the way there are written (storytelling) compared to the strongly factual style of first two parts.
So, would I recommend this book? definitely! Although it is focused on highly educated people in Switzerland, the personal stories shared in the third part of the book are, in my opinion, applicable to anyone in any country facing unemployment and looking for ideas on how to deal with it, practically and emotionally”
